Standards of Evidence

Standardised approaches related to evidence and evaluation, freely available for all to follow.

These Standards of Evidence were initially developed by the housing sector, funded by government and social housing providers. Since publishing, they have been available to people working across sectors, to help people generating evidence to do so robustly and proportionately.

Impact evaluations: producing evidence of the effectiveness of interventions

The Standard for Producing Evidence of the Effectiveness of Interventions provides a standardised process for undertaking impact evaluations.

This Standard of Evidence comes in two parts. Part one is the specification, detailing the steps needed to follow the standardised approach. Part two provides explanations of why most of steps in the standardised approach are there, giving guidance about how to follow them.

Talking about evidence: a standardised vocabulary

The standards in this series follow the general form used by standards organisations like BSI and ISO. Part of that approach is to focus on consistency to aid clarity, rather than using synonyms to keep the writing more interesting. To help with that, there is an accompanying Standard of Evidence called a vocabulary, to define the terms.
